Happy Birthday Ivan Neville!

The folks at Bear Creek Music and Art Festival remind us that today funk great Ivan Neville is celebrating his birthday. festgrrl is so very glad this fine musician was born! Hangout Fesitval on the Beach in Alabama This Weekend!

Folks are rolling into the Florida Panhandle for the big-ticket acts at the second Hangout Festival in Orange Beach, Alabama this weekend. The three-day festival passes are sold out, and they won't be selling one-day tickets either. So good luck!

The pre-party starts tonight on a funky note, with Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Moon Taxi, Andrew Duhon, Kristy Lee and Romany Rye. Tickets are $15 and are on sale now HERE.

Headliners include Paul Simon, The Flaming Lips, The Black Keys, Widespread  Panic, and more. No camping on site, you have to book accommodations at Orange Beach.

Last year was the first year for this fest, and it was marred by the oil spill in the Gulf. Organizers donated all profits to help the communities affected by the oil spill. Good to see these folks back this year with a giant beach party!!

Wa-wa-Wanee!

This week it's all about the Wanee Festival, the Allman-Brothers-hosted all-star jam extravaganza that brings a big crowd to Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Fl.

This year's lineup, as in past years, is epic. You can get your online ticket discount through tomorrow. It's $221.50 (including all the fees) online for a weekend ticket, which gets you shows Wednesday through Saturday and free primitive camping. On Wednesday, it's gate prices only -- and that will set you back $265. (Note: The Early Bird tix were $165!) Still, considering the number of shows and awesome musical raging that will doubtless occur, it will be money well spent.

Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk is going to do a James Brown set Wednesday night. And that's AFTER JGB (Jerry Garcia tribute band) AND after the smokin' New Orleans' band, The Radiators. Lord have Mercy! That's just Day One.

Dumpstaphunk!

Dumpstaphunk is is one of the best funk bands playing today, no doubt. Fresh off the Jam Cruise, Ivan Neville (son of sweet-voiced Aaron) and his band come to Tallahassee Friday night, Jan. 14, at the Engine Room. It is going to be a killer show Oct. 30 at the Southern Monster Smash in Pompano Beach Oct. 30! Check the lineup and know that the show ends with a "Monster Jam" that will include members from all of the bands.
