Jazz in Pensacola, Blues in Jacksonville

This coming week, there are two non-camping and FREE festivals on opposite sides of the Florida Panhandle, where spring is a-busting.

The Pensacola Jazz Fest happens April 6 & 7. It's the festival's 30th anniversary. You'll have to find a hotel room or you can camp in one of the nearby state parks.

Jacksonville Beach hosts its annual Springing the Blues Festival April 6 &7.  This is a fine little family-friendly street festival with lots of vendors right along the ocean. It's free, but you can pay for premium seating with chairs in a fenced area in front of the stage with its own port o lets and a beverage bar. You can get tickets for the premium seats here.  Jax Beach has plenty of hotels nearby, some with heated pools and outdoor hot tubs in case the Atlantic is still too chilly for you.

Nikki Talley, Grant Peeples Gonna Bring It Tonight in Tallahassee

Two talented singer-songwriters hit Tallahassee's  Mockingbird tonight at 7 -- the big-voiced  Nikki Talley of Asheville, North Carolina (fresh off her powerful shows at Suwanne Springfest) and Wakulla County's own very special provocateur-troubadour Grant Peeples.

The show lasts from 7-10, and it's free (tips for the musicians please.) It's a good idea to get a table and grab some grub. Or you can always sit at the bar.

This is a good listening room, and these two are very worth hearing!

Can We Go Back to Springfest??

Every time we build our temporary community in the woods, festgrrl has a rough return to "regular" life.

We create something so very special when we gather to dance and smile and laugh and listen. There is not enough listening in the real world, don't you agree?

What's not to love about Keller and the Keels? Flat-picking phenom Larry Keel, his wife Jenny playing killer upright bass, and the ebullient Keller Williams.
